June 18, 2016 - Kevin Sitton Takes Cotton Bowl Speedway Checkers
1

Paige, Texas (06/18/16) The Southern Texas Late Model Series took to the 3/8-mile Cotton Bowl Speedway as Mother Nature finally agreed to a scheduled date.  The Series had not seen the track since the first weekend in March, so it was sure to be an interesting night as many drivers had cobwebs to dust off.

In heat race action, Robbie Starnes of Baytown, TX patiently worked his way to the front to take the checkered in the first heat with Jarrod Stepanski and Michael Wagner rounding out the top 3.

Kevin Sitton of Baytown, TX went from back to front in the first lap and never looked back to take the checkered in the second heat followed by Sloppy Hogg and G. W. Egbert.

Eleven cars made the call for the feature, and Sitton in the #20 continued to show his strength as he took the lead from the outside line on the first lap.  Starnes in the #77 settled in to 2nd as the #ZZ of Sloppy Hogg and the #717 of G. W. Egbert traded 3rd and 4th over the next several laps.

An early caution was brought out by the #12 of Kody Hardage.  The caution gave the ZZ of Sloppy Hogg an oppurtunity to work past Starnes for 2nd.  Starnes worked the top shelf to take back over 2nd as ZZ fell into 3rd, 717 of Egbert held onto 4th, and 69c of Greg Dinsmore worked up to 5th from his 11t-starting position.  Sitton set sail and was never challenged for the lead as he lead wire-to-wire.

The Southern Texas Late Model Series will be back in action on July 8th and July 9th for a full weekend of action starting with Heart O Texas Speedway (Elm Mott, TX) on Friday night and Cotton Bowl Speedway (Paige, TX) on Saturday night.

Don’t forget to catch up in the action at raceontexas.com.  Every lap of this season’s racing is available in the on-demand section.
